Collection Information: Submit sample in an ova and parasite kit which consists of two containers, one for stool and one for stool with preservative. Both containers must be submitted.

Collect specimen prior to administration of antibiotics or antidiarrheal agents. Avoid use of mineral oil, bismuth and barium prior to collection. Avoid contamination with urine or water from the toilet.

Select areas of stool that appear blood-stained, purulent or watery. Transfer this to parasite transport media (labelled SAF FIXATIVE). Thoroughly mix 5mL of stool with 20mL of fixative (1:4 ratio).
Send this fixed stool sample and a also a portion of unfixed stool in a clean container to the Microbiology Lab.
