Interpretive Comments:  
Special Processing: Sample must be spun and separated within 4 hours of collection. Ship to Microbiology immediately. Off hours, specimen receiving staff must spin sample immediately and aliquot and freeze plasma.

Document time sample is separated on the requisition.
Comments: This is not a diagnostic test. Test is only available on patients known to be positive. Results are provided for prognostic purposes only and will be reported directly to physician.

Critical Information Required: A completed Public Health - HIV Viral Load Requisition must accompany sample.

Information must include:
-Collection time
-CD4 count
-Current viral therapy
-Time sample is separated (laboratory staff)
-Physician's name, phone number, address printed clearly on the requisition
Storage & Shipment: Spin and separate plasma from red blood cells. Plasma may be held at 4 degrees Celsius for up to 24 hours. Any delay over 24 hours and plasma must be frozen for shipment to Microbiology.
