Collection Information: Testing is only available for:

1. Infants (<18 months) born to HIV infected mothers
2. Patients who are HIV Indeterminate
3. The diagnosis of HIV infection in individuals likely to be in the pre-antibody, sero-conversion window

Special Processing: Sample must be received at Toronto Public Health within 5 days of collection.
Comments: Test detects HIV-1 only. Requests for HIV-2 PCR must be approved by the Microbiologist
Method of Analysis: Qualitative Nucleic Acid Amplification assay (PCR)
Critical Information Required: A completed HIV PCR Test Requisition must accompany the sample.
Information must include:

-Collection time
-Physician's name, phone number, and address
-Patient's clinical history
-Reason for testing e.g. Recent conversion, previous indeterminate antibody result, newborn child to HIV positive patient etc.
Storage & Shipment: Ship on ice packs.
