There are no additional blood requirements if 14 dark green tops are already being drawn for the CDC crossmatch.

Draw 7 x 6 mL Sodium Heparin (dark green tops, no separator gel) in those rare occasions when the CDC crossmatch is not being performed. Contact the Living Donor Coordinator or the Transplant Laboratory for clarification.

Recipient Requirements:
There are no additional requirements if 1 x 6 mL Red top Vacutainer is being drawn for the CDC crossmatch.

Draw 1 x 6 mL Red top Vacutainer in those rare occasions when the CDC crossmatch is not being performed. Draw by venipuncture and pre-dialysis (if applicable) to avoid contamination with anticoagulants. Contact the Living Donor Coordinator or the Transplant Laboratory for clarification.

NOTE: smaller volumes apply for paediatric patients. Contact the Transplant Laboratory for details (519-663-3320).
Collection Information: Living donor crossmatches are performed only for patients in the London Transplant Program and must be booked in advance by calling the laboratory. (519-663-3320)
It is preferable to have the living donors bled at the UH LTC. However, shipped samples may be accepted in rare cases.

Critical Information Required:  
Storage & Shipment: Living donor samples are usually drawn in the Lab Test Centre (UH) and delivered immediately to the Transplant Laboratory at room temperature. Shipped living donor samples must be kept at room temperature and delivered within 24 hours.

Recipient sera samples that are drawn in the Lab Test Centre (UH) are to be delivered immediately to the Transplant Laboratory at room temperature. Those that are to be shipped and received within 24 hours are to be stored and shipped refrigerated. Recipient samples that are delayed beyond 24 hours are to have the serum separated, frozen and shipped on dry ice (or frozen ice packs, if dry ice is not available).
