Collection Information: Blood (EDTA): MUST be spun, separated and stored at 4C for shipment the next morning

CSF and Fluid: Collect a minimum of 1.0 mL in a sterile container.

Lesion: Wipe vesicle with saline. Disrupt vesicle and collect fluid and cells from base of lesion with a swab.

Tissue: Place in sterile container

In General:
Swabs contained in the Viral Transport Kit should be used for collection.

Viral Transport Media with swab can be ordered from HMMS using item # 36981.
Requisition: VIROLOGY REQUISITION
Test Schedule: CSF samples are tested once daily Monday to Friday.
Blood and lesions are tested twice weekly on Tuesday and Friday
Tissues and Fluids are sent to Public Health Laboratory for testing
