Bronchial alveolar lavage is superior to bronchial wash.

Expectorated sputum samples are not acceptable.

Tissues/biopsies are not processed for Pneumocystis by the Microbiology Laboratory. Please submit fixed tissue/biopsy to Pathology. State "Examination for Pneumocystis required".
