Pediatric:
0-2 yrs: 0.5pk. Green top
2-10 yrs: 2 mL Green top
Collection Information: Collect blood aseptically in a Vacutainer tube.

Serum from a 5 mL Gold top or 6 mL Red top Vacutainer tube is also acceptable.

Critical Value:  
Interpretive Comments: A positive result in this drug screen indicates that tricyclic antidepressants may be present in serum at a mimimum concentration of 300 mg/ml, and is to be regarded as preliminary/presumptive unless subsequently verified by a definitive confirmation test on a urine specimen that is collected simultaneously or within 24 hours of teh serum samples that tested positive (available upon request by calling the Toxicology Laboratory.)
Note that this screen is susceptible to false positive responses from other drugs such as diphenhydramine (eg: Gravol) and antihistamines, cyclobenzaprine and other muscle relaxants, phenothiazines and other antipsychotics, and carbamazepine.
