Collection instructions:

Prior to collection, contact the Core Lab to obtain a collection kit.
- Nasopharyngeal swab:

Insert flexible, fine-shafted swab into nasopharynx, rotate in circular manner to collect cellular material. Place DRY swab in sterile tube
Requisition: LHSC COVID-19 REQUISITION
Test Schedule: Testing is performed 7 days per week from 08:00 to 23:00 at PaLM VH CORE LAB. Specimens received in swab media will not be processed on the ID NOW.

Comments: This test has a lower sensitivity (~90%) compared to laboratory-based PCR testing. Consideration should be given to clinical and/or exposure history, disease prevalence in the community, and the risk/vulnerability of the population to determine if confirmatory testing is warranted in these scenarios.
