Collection Information: Living donor crossmatches are performed only for patients in one of the London Transplant Programs and must be booked in advance by calling the laboratory. (519-663-3320)

It is preferable to have the living donors bled at the UH LTC. However, shipped samples may be accepted in rare cases.

Interpretive Comments: A positive flowcytometry crossmatch indicates the likely presence of donor specific antibodies.

Method of Analysis: HLA Class I and Class II typings are performed using molecular techniques (RSSO or SSP).
Crossmatches are performed using flow cytometry.
Critical Information Required:  
Storage & Shipment: Living donor samples are usually drawn in the Lab Test Centre (UH) and delivered immediately to the Transplant Laboratory at room temperature. Shipped living donor samples must be kept at room temperature and delivered within 24 hours.
