Specimen Type: Samples required from mother and father (NAIT) or patient (PTP):

10 mL whole blood collected in Red top or Serum Separator tube
30 mL whole blood collected in Sodium Citrate (blue) or ACD (yellow) tubes

Sample required from baby:

2 mL whole blood collected in EDTA (Lavender) tube

Sample required for Fetal Typing:
20 mL Amniotic Fluid. Discard first 3 mL amniotic fluid drawn. Then draw 20 mL amniotic fluid into Red top or non-anticoagulated tube. Must be kept STERILE
OR
2 mL Fetal cord blood collected into EDTA (Lavender) tube
Collection Information: Do NOT refrigerate or centrifuge samples.

Samples can be collected Monday to Thursday, but must be received in Transfusion Medicine Laboratory by noon.
Samples may be collected on a Friday with prior arrangements made with Transfusion Medicine Laboratory, but will not be shipped out until Monday.
Requisition: BLOOD TRANSFUSION REQUISITION or Electronic order
Test Schedule: Referred out Monday- Thursday before 1400 h
