Red, Gold, or Light Green (Li-heparin) top tubes are NOT acceptable.
Collection Information: Collect blood in a foil-covered tube to protect from light. Avoid hemolysis. Minimum volume of plasma required is 2 mL for adult or pediatric samples.

Special Processing: After centrifugation, transfer at least 2 mL of plasma to a light-protected tube. Store and ship plasma frozen.
Comments: The plasma porphyria screen is a sensitive test for variegate porphyria and may also be helpful to diagnose and differentiate between other forms of porphyria.
