Test Name: Products of Conception
Alternate Name(s): Chromosome Analysis
Laboratory: Cytogenetics (VH)
Specimen Type: Amnion (0.1-5cm2), cord (1cm3), chorionic villi or fetal skin (0.5-1cm2) preferred - In a sterile container, containing Hank's Balanced Salt Solution (HBSS)
Collection Information: The tissue of choice is (0.5-1 cm2) piece of fetal skin placed in a sterile vessel containing HBSS. If fetal skin is unavailable, then amnion, cord or chorionic villi is acceptable

Requisition: CYTOGENETICS REQUISITION . (must include patient's name, address, Ontario Health Insurance Number, PIN (if applicable), originating location, Dr's full name and address, test requested, specimen type and pertinent clinical information.

Special Processing: As products of conception are prone to microbial contamination, collect sample as aseptically as possible and send to the laboratory within 24 hours.
Comments: The Cytogenetics Lab is staffed from 0700-1700 (Monday-Friday), Ext. 78974 (office), or 75714 (lab).

Critical Information Required: Receive in laboratory within 24 hours of collection.
Storage & Shipment: If unable to transport immediately, store at 4oC and transport at room temperature (15-25oC) within 24 hours.
