Pediatric:
0-2 yrs: 2 x 0.5 mL Green top
2-10 yrs: 3 mL Green top
Collection Information: Volume of blood required is 0.5 mL.

Collect blood, place on ice and send immediately to the Core Lab. Specimens not received on ice will not be processed.

Blood must be added to PCA immediately after collection in order to minimize degradation of metabolites.

Special Processing: 1. Pipette 0.5 mL of freshly drawn whole blood from Green top tube (on ice) into cold pyruvate tube containing 1 mL of 8% perchloric acid.
2. Mix and spin in cold centrifuge.
3. Aliquot supernatant into clean transport tube
4. Re-spin in cold centrifuge and remove supernatant into another clean transport tube.
5. Freeze immediately at -20C.
6. Send frozen sample to Biochemical Genetics Laboratory on dry ice.
