Collection Information: This sample type cannot be processed as a STAT request. Samples are handled in a priority sequence and results are reported as they become available.

Depress tongue gently with a tongue depressor. Extend sterile swab between the tonsillar pillars and behind the uvula. Avoid touching the cheeks, tongue, uvula or lips. Sweep swab back and forth across the posterior pharynx, tonsillar areas and any inflamed or ulcerated areas. Place swab in transport media.
