Specimen Type: Tissue, biopsy
Collection Information: Skin Biopsy - Clean and disinfect the skin. Allow disinfectant to dry. Collect 3-4 mm sample with a dermal punch and place sample in a sterile container.
Note: Keep sample moist with a small amount of sterile, non-bacteriostatic saline while it is being transported to the Lab.

Deep Wounds - Clean and disinfect the area. Allow disinfectant to dry. Avoid contamination from wound surface. Collect tissue sample by scalpel and place tissue in anaerobic transport media.


A swab that was rubbed over the surface of the tissue is not an appropriate specimen.
