Specimen Type:  Swab specimens of appropriate superficial or deep space specimen types, including abscess, bite, burn, cyst, graft, ulcer, surgical sites.
Surgically collected tissue or fluid from an infection are higher quality specimens than swab specimens.
Wound, abscess, or ulcer swabs collected from coccyx, sacral, rectal, buttock, perianal, and related sites (including decubitus ulcers) are not acceptable for culture investigation. Specimens from infections of this body area should be collected by aspiration, curettage or biopsy, following wound cleansing and debridement.
Collection Information: Use a Single eSwab™ (White cap)

- Remove the swab and avoid touching the swab applicator below the pink scored breakpoint
- Collect the sample by rolling the swab over the site
- Insert the swab all the way into the transport tube and, holding the end of the swab applicator, bend it toward you until it breaks off
- Cap the tube and label appropriately
